About Allison

My love of interiors and blending of styles was cultivated at a young age. I was 10 when I started to rearrange the furniture and eclectic possessions that my family accumulated through all our moves between Mexico, Utah, Montana and Southern California. As a young adult I spent time in New York City, learning about art, architecture and being mentored by my cousin who was an incredible artist and textile designer before returning to the northwest to continue my interior design work.

These experiences have shaped our philosophy at Allison Smith Design to create homes and spaces that tell a story that is uniquely yours and unlike anyone else.

What is Your Design Style?

Your design style defines your home and creates a set of building blocks to create from. It is a useful tool in determining all kinds of design aspects: color palettes, finishes, patterns, you name it. Take the quiz to find out what style best fits you.

About Vancouver Washington

Vancouver Washington’s history is an interesting one. Located right on the Washington-Oregon border, Vancouver has been a part of both states in its past as well as British Columbia to the north. But before it was ever designated as Vancouver WA, the area was known by many different names including Fort Vancouver and City of Vancouver.

The first evidence of habitation in the area dates back to 1825 when it was settled by trappers and traders from Canada, England, Scotland and France. They quickly established trading posts and villages where they could take advantage of trading opportunities with local tribes such as Chinookans, Cowlitzes and Klickitats. The area continued to grow in population over time until eventually it became a city in 1857. It was also during this time that the name Vancouver was officially adopted.

Vancouver continued to grow and prosper until the early 1900s when its economy took a hit due to the closure of the Fort Vancouver Military Reserve. Despite this setback, Vancouver managed to weather the storm and become one of Washington’s most important cities today. It is home to numerous businesses and points of interest including Pearson Field, Esther Short Park, Fort Vancouver National Historic Site and many others.

For those looking for an interesting slice of history, exploring what makes up Vancouver Washington’s past can be quite rewarding! From its early pioneers to its modern-day attractions, there’s something for everyone in this city with a rich history. Whether you’re interested in learning about how it became part of two states or just looking for a fun, educational trip, Vancouver Washington and its history are sure to provide an enjoyable experience.
