With sprawling ceilings, a formal dining room, and an open kitchen, this NW Portland home had all the right proportions in all the right places.  The one thing it was lacking was an updated design package–including all new surfaces, lighting, plumbing, hardware, and window treatments.

We broke the project down into phases:

Phase I: New flooring, countertops, bathroom tile, appliances, and plumbing fixtures.

Phase II: Finishing touches, lighting, window treatments

Phase III: Furniture and Accessories

This home has beautiful custom woodwork throughout.  While the wood itself is gorgeous, the stain color and style are somewhat outdated.  The other issue we noticed was that in spite of having very high ceilings throughout the home, the contrasting colors, accent walls, and stained woodwork were creating a choppy look that feels boxed in.

Before:

Allison’s solution was to use one color throughout for the trim, walls, ceiling and cabinets.  This design choice brings continuity, modernizes the look, and makes everything feel fresh.  Demo included removal of all plumbing, a new, more space efficient Master Bedroom entrance, added lighting, and removal of all flooring.

During:

As of writing this blog entry, October 25, 2016, we’re finishing up Phase I and moving into Phase II.  Our contractors are giving it one last walk through to make sure everything is perfect.

Stay tuned to see the beautiful finishes of Phase II!
